Boundaries are hard. I have an extraordinarily hard time setting them for myself when I need them the most. And I know I’ve blown it with some of those of my loved ones. I am not perfect, I ask for forgiveness and strive to do better every day. But the best advice I’ve seen recently went something like this: It is your responsibility to set your own boundaries. And it is also your responsibility to hold them. Sadly, you can’t expect every person in your sphere to respect your boundaries, and so you have to respect yourself enough to confront the behavior, the person, and sometimes make the hard choices to keep yourself safe and secure.
