Memories
That were never true
But my soul wanted to believe
In magic
And illusions
In something good
That could somehow be born
Out of the shadows
Love
Came with pain and aggression
Addiction
Rage
Paternal strife
Love
Came with sorrow and deception
Guilt
Hiding
Shame
Abandonment
I gave my body and mind
To this dark mission
In a false exchange
The waves carry it all away
Now
Because grace doesn’t require me
To fix everything that
I did not break
Nor influence the outcome
When the solution is not about me
Not for me
Only the captive can choose to break free
I can not shield them
It only requires my presence
Quiet
Illumination
Truth
Softness
It breaks me down anyway
The thunder roars
And the earth quakes
Beneath my feet
My foundation crumbles
Again
Calling me
Trust
All the things I haven’t believed
Resistance
But after the thunder
Comes the lightning
The darkness
Shaken forward into the light
I’m forced to
Release control
Accept
See the inner authority
Born from a witness
An accidental victim
Because the lightning
Bumped
Against all of that
Suppressed shadow
Now
Let go
And tell the story
Of survival
That will lead others
Out of darkness
Into the light
